Five Monkeys as a Financial Lesson
Posted on June 25, 2012 | No CommentsFor my thinking readers it is time to examine world cultures. Every country has its culture built on the same mindless system as the monkeys. The cry is, “We have always done it that way”. And they are so imbued with the culture, system, methods, whatever, that it is almost impossible to change unless there is some type of catastrophe – natural or man made. -
The Demise of Buy and Hold
Posted on June 14, 2012 | No CommentsBut as it says on the bottom of every prospectus, past performance is no guarantee of future results. And in these days of cockeyed cooked books, past performance is barely a guarantee of past results! So you need to decide not only what to buy, but you have to be darn sure you know when to sell it when future results of an investment don't match your expectations. -
Apa Tak Patut Dibuat Masa Market Down? – Unit Trust
Posted on June 1, 2012 | No CommentsJadi, apa yang TAK PATUT dibuat masa pasaran merundum sekarang? Masih melabur la! Kena stop semua! Kalau masih melabur, suruh agen anda switch ke Money Market atau Sukuk fund atau switch kepada mana-mana fund yang efeknya tak terasa sangat kalau pasaran turun. -
Buy and Hold: How to Perpetuate Your Investment Losses
Posted on February 7, 2012 | 1 CommentI have received countless e-mails and phone calls from individuals who have been led astray by brokers, financial planners and others using buy-and-hold and dollar cost averaging. Stories abound of retirees having to go back to work just because someone told them that "the market can't go any lower" or "let's dollar cost average." -
Changing Brokers/Financial Planners
Posted on March 10, 2011 | No CommentsBe careful of financial planners, but a good one who charges only a fee will be easier to find than a broker. Some are CFPs, Certified Financial Planners. That doesn’t mean they know how to make money. Most have the same training as brokers – all bad. You definitely don’t want one with ties to any financial organization or brokerage company. -
Bear Market Thoughts
Posted on February 17, 2011 | No CommentsA bear market needs to be avoided at all costs, or you will again join millions of mislead investors who will watch their (bullish) portfolio sink into oblivion. To say investing for the long-term is the answer when buying and holding is simply not acceptable, because who wants to go down with a bear market and then wait some five or more years just to make up the losses? -
Mattress Money
Posted on January 3, 2011 | No CommentsFirst thing you need to do is make them prove they know what they are doing. Every professional should have a model portfolio. One of the answers you will get is there are several different types and they may not be what you need. Capital BS. Tell them bluntly unless you see are real time (not hypothetical) portfolio you are going to hang up. Period. Any hesitation and you do hang up. He is ashamed of his performance and you have escaped with your funds in tact. -
Wall Street’s 10 Biggest Lies
Posted on August 18, 2010 | No CommentsBrokers are taught that it is impossible to time the ups and downs of the market. Market timing is beautifully simple, but they don't want to know how to do it even for their own accounts. -
How To Profit In A Bear Market
Posted on July 27, 2010 | No CommentsI’m sure your broker hasn’t mentioned it – or even called. Brokers don’t like to talk to their customers when the market is going down. If you happen to call him he will fall back on the tried and true loser, dollar cost averaging.
